Metalworkers: Fim Cisl opens its congress season

The congress season opens Fim Cisl, which will lead her to the celebration of XXth National Congress in Turin on 20 and 21 April 2022 in Turin. This was communicated by the Secretary General of the Fim Cisl, Roberto Benaglia, on the occasion of the General Council which was held yesterday, 9 September 2021, in Rome.

Way back in 1954, the Fim had celebrated its second national congress, also in Turin. “Today as then – he said Robert Benaglia – Turin represents a symbolic city for metalworkers, a crossroads of the transformations taking place in the world of work, which in the automotive industry find an epicenter of two great transitions, the digital and the ecological one. Two transitions that are redesigning our industry, our productive world and our society".

"We participate for more fair work” this is the congressional slogan. “Because faced with the speed of these changes, the real challenge will be to leave no one behind. Participation is the only way we have to make the changes taking place in the world of work sustainable. There are too many risks that the speed of change creates pockets of localization. Generational, gender, territorial inequalities must be overcome within a participatory dimension. Participation that must be extended to every aspect of working life”, added Benaglia.

Then a nod to the many corporate crises still open. “It is not possible that our country is not capable of dealing with reindustrialisation and active policies. We have had disputes open for years, it is unacceptable. And on relocations – the number one of the Fim – it is not tolerable that, as happens in the rest of Europe when a company decides to close and leave, a path of social responsibility does not open up which gives people not only shock absorbers but opportunities for reindustrializations. This does not mean discouraging companies from coming to our country, but it is a choice of civilization and sustainability".

"Autumn - concluded Benaglia - will be the autumn of recovery, as Fim we think it should be supported" and announces two initiatives of the Italian metalworkers federation adhering to the CISL: the first in Torino on the automotive next September 17th and a great initiative on the Mezzogiorno next September 30th a Caserta.
