The conversation at the Quirinale between Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the head of state Giorgio Napolitano has just ended. Undersecretary Gianni Letta was also present at the meeting, which lasted about an hour. None of the protagonists wanted to make statements, but the agenda of the appointment seemed more than necessary. Among the topics that were probably discussed, the economy was in first place: in particular the disappointing response of the markets to the financial package approved in record time last Friday.
But the summit at Colle was certainly also an opportunity to take stock of the government's situation and the so-called "reshuffle", which now seems to be upon us. Still holds the lottery on who will be the next Minister of Justice. This week Angelino Alfano will have to leave his position as Minister of Justice to assume the role of full-time secretary of the PDL. Uncertainty still reigns over the name of his successor, even if in the last few hours the chances of the lawyer Anna Maria Bernini and the minister Renato Brunetta seem to be losing ground. The other competitor, the former Minister of Regional Affairs, Enrico La Loggia, remains more secluded.
