Vaccination license: the ministry rejects the idea of the Regions

Vaccination license: the ministry rejects the idea of the Regions

Several Italian Regions would like to establish the "vaccination certificate”, a sort of certificate that Italians vaccinated against Covid could use to have a little more freedom. For example, to travel (even abroad), practice certain sports that are not recommended for now or attend places that are currently closed due to the risk of crowds. The Ministry of Health, however, does not agree: too dangerous, at least for now. All the more so since such an initiative should be taken at Community level, and there is no agreement in Brussels on this matter.

We must not forget that maybe vaccines don't prevent contagion, but they limit themselves to contrasting or inhibiting the emergence of the symptoms. On this point there is no agreement in the scientific community: the data do not give certainties. Prudence therefore requires imagine that even the immunized can be contagious and therefore they too have the obligation to respect the rules valid for everyone: mask, social distancing, hand hygiene and quarantine in case of risky contact with a positive. Moral: there is no need to provide softer rules for people who could still spread the virus.

But that's not all: another reason that suggests rejecting the idea of a vaccination license is the fear that vaccines are less effective against variants of the virus from South Africa, Great Britain and Brazil.

In reality, the document itself already exists in many Regions: it is the vaccination record, which reports all the administrations received by citizens. The point is that, without the green light from the ministry, the booklet cannot be transformed into a pass for a life with fewer constraints. On this, local administrations will not be allowed to proceed in random order.

“We need a national law – explains alla Republic Simone Bezzini, Tuscan councilor for health – Otherwise there is the risk of creating total confusion and one must be sure of the scientific foundation with respect to coverage. For example, how long is it? It is essential to know this in order to understand when the document expires”.
