Light and gas: here is the AU tutorial to compare offers

The current health emergency has forced millions of Italians to stay indoors. This has had an impact not only on our habits but also on domestic consumption. Furthermore, with the liberalization of the energy market, the choice of one's electricity and gas supplier becomes fundamental. The "quarantine" can therefore become a useful period to look for new solutions and, potentially, even new suppliers more suitable for our needs.

And this is where the Single Buyer comes into play. The public body has prepared a short tutorial to guide consumers in choosing the electricity and gas offer that best suits your needs, through the Offers Portal.

The portal is managed entirely by the Single Buyer, as established by the Arera, and has informative and non-commercial purposes. As required by law, it collects all the offers present in the electricity and natural gas retail markets, aimed at both households and SMEs.

The tutorial illustrates step by step how to navigate the Portal to easily and reliably compare the various electricity and natural gas offers. It is important to have all the data at your disposal, such as the annual consumption, in order to be able to refine your search as much as possible and choose the most suitable offer. So as to also have positive effects on the bill.

AU is a 100% public company, belonging to the GSE group, created to purchase electricity on the wholesale market for all customers, both domestic and SMEs, who have chosen to remain on the protected market.

The energy market is certainly a complicated subject, but it affects all Italians, for this reason it is in the interest of each of us to understand how it works.

At the moment, two types of energy markets coexist in our country: the free one and the protected one. But soon, in January 2022, the electricity market will change dramatically, seeing the disappearance of the protected one. But what are the advantages of this step?

First of all, the transition to the free market is free and no interruptions or technical interventions are foreseen. The rates are sometimes cheaper, as they include additional services such as discounts and offers, which are not included in the restricted one.

Thirdly, the rates of the captive change every 3 months, influenced by the trend of the wholesale market. This makes the consumer bill quite volatile. In contrast, free market tariffs they are mainly at an indexed or locked price and therefore more predictable.

Finally, captive market customers cannot have the same supplier for electricity and gas. Differently, the free market provides for this possibility, together with that of get exclusive discounts for those who decide to have the same supplier. Here is the tutorial prepared by the Single Buyer:
