Fires: still new fires in Sicily

After the events of Vesuvius, which still involve extinguishing operations and yesterday's dramatic emergency a San Vito Lo Capo, fires have just broken out in Monreale, in the province of Palermo and in Andrano as well as various active outbreaks in the Syracuse area and a fire in Librizzi.

In San Mauro Castelverde a vast fire is underway, perhaps attributable to the hand of a suspect, which was conducted for investigations in the barracks. The man was spotted in a suspicious attitude at one of the outbreaks from which the fire spread over a kilometer.

The alert is maximum, the level of temperatures makes the scenario more than alarming in seven provinces. Yesterday there were more than 26 fires throughout Sicily, which were managed by the Civil Protection. The situation is calming down only in Syracuse and Trapani

At the moment, two meetings are underway in the prefecture, in Messina and in Syracuse. The Minister of the Environment Gianluca Galletti is evaluating the sending of military personnel to help the Fire Brigade engaged on many fronts of the fire emergency.

The situation near Taormina is dramatic, where on Wednesday the mayor of Castemola (Messina), Orlando Russo and the president of the City Council risked their lives.

A fire that devastated 5 km of Mediterranean scrub and vegetation. A woman ended up in hospital on principle of poisoning and a firefighter was injured. Not to mention horses, sheep and dogs that burned to death in the flames that broke out in a stable.

The firefighters have declared that the safety conditions do not exist to allow tourists evacuated from the tourist village of Calampiso, in San Vito Lo Capo, to return to the structure. Many have interrupted their holidays and have returned to their cities of origin.
