As part of the debate organized by the CESIFIN Foundation "Corporate Governance: New challenges and Best Practices" which was held yesterday in Florence, Tommaso Corcos, CEO of Eurizon and President of Assogestioni, declared: “It is interesting to note how ESG issues are assuming an increasingly important role in corporate strategic decisions. For example, from the last meeting season in the USA it emerges that ESG issues
represent around 60% of all shareholder proposals, with particular attention to climate risk issues which reached the record level of 40% of the votes cast”.
“The current phase – continued Corcos – is guided by the revision of the Corporate Governance codes and by the introduction of the Principles of Stewardship in many European jurisdictions. The revision of the Shareholder Rights Directive will lead to greater rights but also greater responsibilities for shareholders. At Eurizon, for example, we are committing ourselves to the creation of appropriate institutional mandates, in collaboration with our clients for creating sustainable investment solutions that can help them support a virtuous economy”.
