Pensions, Fornero: decree for exodus by 30 June

The Minister of Labor guaranteed this today, explaining however that the problem of reforms remains open and "if they cannot be found" it will be necessary to focus "on a criterion inspired by fairness that protects the weakest first".

Pensions, Fornero: decree for exodus by 30 June

The pension reform is already shelved, but its side effects are yet to be resolved. By the end of June, the Government will address the problem of so-called "displaced" workers with an ad hoc decree. This was announced today by the Minister of Labour, Elsa Fornero, specifying however that the problem of resources remains to be solved. The 5 billion euros initially envisaged to cover the pension chasm that will open over the next seven years, in fact, have already proved insufficient.

The term "exodus" instead refers to all those workers who - by accepting economic incentives from their company in crisis - have resigned with the prospect of retiring within the next two years. Then came the technical government and the nasty surprise.

With the new personal data requirements envisaged by the Fornero reform – launched in December together with the salva-Italia – these workers could no longer start receiving the social security allowance on schedule, but have now left their jobs and being of advanced age their prospects of reintegration are practically nil. Without a corrective specially designed for them by the Executive, these people would risk finding each other very soon without salary or pension.

“I understand the anxiety of these people – said the minister today -. I ask for a little patience, until June 30, for the decree to be issued". Finally, a clarification on the real probability of being able to find the necessary funds: “If not you will be able to find resources for everyone, it will be necessary to find a criterion inspired by fairness… A criterion that protects the weakest first".
