Big news in the 2024 edition of the Michelin Restaurant Guide. The first is that the Three Stars have finally returned to the South after many years, with the Quattro Passi restaurant in Nerano, where "the Mellino family has managed to combine extraordinary Mediterranean cuisine with the warmth of innate Campania hospitality".
The second big news is also Norbert Niederkofler's return to the top of starred restaurants in Brunico, at the Atelier Moessmer, "where he found a perfect dimension for his mountain cuisine".
Still in terms of news, the news comes from Milan with the Capitaneo brothers entering the Guide directly with Two stars (as happened last year for the I tre Olivi restaurant in Paestum with chef Gianni Solofra). And, again in Milan, Andrea Aprea recovers his position after the opening of his restaurant in July 2022.
Another return in great style is that of Michelangelo Mammoliti at La Rei in Serralunga d'Alba: Two Stars.
Campania, in addition to the achievement of the Three Stars, confirms itself as a great hotbed of fine dining: from the Two Stars of Naples with the George Restaurant and of Castellammare di Stabia with Piazzetta Milù to the Star assigned to three restaurants on the Coast: Alici, Bluh Furore and A Plan in the Sky.
Great harvest also for Sicily and special mention for Umbria, which this year doubles the number of its Stars, going from 3 to 6 starred restaurants.
An interesting fact is that among the new stars in the Guide, approximately half are restaurants mentioned for the first time. Some of them are led or followed by chefs whose undoubted value we already knew - we read in a note - (such as Alici by Crescenzo Scotti, Casa Mazzucchelli, Orma by Roy Caceres...) but in other cases they are young cuisines and promising, which immediately convinced our Inspectors, as sui generis. by Alfio Nicolosi or UNE by Giulio Gigli”.
The number of stars on the roster is also increasing: the Rossa judges have expanded the number of female chefs to Ada by Ada Stefani in Perugia, Casa Mazzucchelli by Aurora Mazzucchelli in Sasso Marconi and Wood by Amanda Eriksson in Breuil Cervinia (Ao). And then there is the green star at Oasis Sapori Antichi by Serena Falco and Michelina in Vallesaccarda, in the province of Avellino.
Finally, while the South can rightly rejoice, Piedmont is instead heavily penalized: it loses five stars in this edition of the Guide.
