Wind Tre 100% Chinese: EU green light by 31 August

Wind Tre is about to become 100% Chinese. In the next few days, the Union's Antitrust could give the green light to Ck Hutchinson's acquisition of the Russian stake in Veon, bought last July for 2,45 billion euros. The official yes of the EU Antitrust is expected by August 31st.

This was reported by Reuters, according to the decision was already taken following the commitment confirmed by Hutchinson towards Iliad, the fourth mobile telephone operator present in Italy, as required by the agreements with the European Commission of last September 2016.

In fact, two years ago Wind Tre agreed to sell part of its frequencies to Iliad (to prevent the merger of Wind with Tre from being approved by the European Commission) and offer it roaming (in Ran Sharing) for a certain period (up to 10 years ).

We remember that in July, Veon (formerly Vimpelcom) and Ck Hutchinson announced the deal on the basis of which the 50% of Wind Tre held by Veon was sold to the Chinese partner. By doing so, the Russians will be able to significantly reduce their debt. However, the proceeds will also be used to buy the assets of Global Telecom Holding in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
