Delicate, light, versatile, with the arrival of sunny days and especially with summer i rosé wines are increasingly conquering the tables of lovers of good food. Certainly they go very well with the flavors and fragrances of spring and summer cuisine based on vegetables, rice salads, cold pasta, baked and barbecued vegetables. Especially for some time now they have shaken off the image of poor brother wines of white and red stills, conquering notable positions on the markets, in Italy and in the world.
According to a study by France Agrimer and Civp the quantity of rosé wines consumed in the world reach 23,6 million hectoliters. At the continental level, Europe and the United States are the main consumers. The ranking for per capita consumption sees the French in first position (15 litres), followed by Uruguay (9,7), Cyprus (5,2), Belgium and Switzerland, both at 5,1. Italy is further back with 2,1 liters per capita per year.
With us we can speak of a Rosé Renaissance since by now the quality levels of our wines are constantly on the rise and are beginning to be appreciated in Italy and abroad.
The second edition of the Guide to the Best Rosés 2022, 50 Top Italy Rosés, curated by Chiara Giorleo and Adele Granieri, in collaboration with Antonella Amodio, Teresa Mincione and Raffaele Mosca, now bears witness to a strong growth in southern production.
Indeed, in the 50 Top Italy Rosé 2022 the Calabrian company Ceraudo won first place after having already been on the podium in the last edition. Silver medal for the Sicilian rosé of Bonavita, also in this case confirmation of an excellent performance. Third place, for the great classic by Leone De Castris, the Five Roses 2021.
Italian rosé wines in constant growth in quality, also appreciated on international markets
The tastings took place after a wide selection of labels, region by region, with the bottles rigorously covered to avoid any sort of conditioning, in the premises of Abraxas Osteria, which has always been sensitive to the importance of the world of wine.
La ranking, as mentioned, highlights above all the southern regions, where this wine segment has always had its importance: Puglia and Abruzzo, with the surprise of Sicily and Calabria and some gems in Campania and Basilicata. For the Center, Lazio and Tuscany are in great shape. In the North, good performances from Trentino-Alto Adige.
