Renzi: broad coalition is needed to destroy Isis

"Joint military initiatives need to be launchedagainst Isis. This is the premier's message Matteo Renzi during the meeting with the President of the French Republic François Hollande. The Prime Minister wanted to underline the closeness of our country to France: "An attack has been carried out not only against France and against Europe but against humanity", said the premier adding that "Italy and France are united against terrorism".

The prime minister said that “one is needed ever-widening coalition leading to the destruction” of Isis, therefore also with the contribution of Russia. However, in addition to the military reaction, Renzi also requires a "cultural response" from the Western world. “Our values are much more important than their barbarism,” Renzi said.

But the Italian premier also wanted to emphasize the Libyan question. "It is essential to give absolute priority to the Libya dossier which risks being the greatest emergency".

Furthermore, during the bilateral meeting, President Hollande advanced the hypothesis of "a global agreement with Turkey" on the theme of migrants. Prime Minister Renzi fully supported Hollande's idea, arguing that an agreement that also includes Turkey “could be decisive for a different model of welcoming refugees. But to stop the exodus of asylum seekers we need to stop the civil wars”.
