Befera: there is no treasure, but for 2012 revenues there are positive signals from the fight against tax evasion

The director of the Revenue Agency: "I hope that both the work done with the Guardia di Finanza in the area and the new income meter, which we will present very shortly, will entice those who have paid little so far to pay the right amount".

Befera: there is no treasure, but for 2012 revenues there are positive signals from the fight against tax evasion

There is no "treasure" from the fight against tax evasion that can be used to lower taxes. In any case, the use of any extra revenue depends only on political choices. This is the message launched this morning by the director of the Revenue Agency, Attilio Befera, who spoke on Canale5 did not mince words: “In my opinion, the treasure does not exist”, he said, “We recover the evasion and a part is foreseen from the budget balances, that is practically untouchable. If we manage to recover more then it will depend on the economic situation of the country and on the political will, not on the Revenue Agency, which makes money available".

As for 2012, however, "there are all signs that revenue could increase,” added Befera, “I'm talking about income from self-taxation. Revenues from evasion recovery are also doing well, because the first signs of 2012 are positive. I hope that both the work done with the Guardia di Finanza in the area and the new income meter, which we will present very soon, will entice those who have paid little so far to pay the right amount".
