After stopping in Vittorio Veneto (TV) and at the Idroscalo in Milan, the International Street Food event dedicated to street food and traveling food trucks throughout Italy, organized by Alfredo Orofino now in its fifth edition, arrives in Rome.
An event that since its inception has set out to discover and rediscover the genuine flavors of poor but tasty street food products, drawing attention to the men and women who open their shops every day, with their history made up of secret recipes, with their humanity and creativity and who stubbornly and proudly defend their street food, ancient and poor preparations, the result of that culture of zero waste that has saved entire generations of Italians from hunger, kneading, frying, boiling, baking, roasting testimonies of historical gastronomic traditions throughout Italy.
The breadth of the food phenomenon, highlighted by FAO statistics, is linked to other anthropological aspects, such as the important role played in the human economy, but also the bringing into play of important cultural, identity and ethnic values. Often, in fact, the products to be consumed on the street are local or regional specialties, as in the case of the pani câ meusa from Palermo, the 'O pere e 'o musso from Naples, the focaccia from Messina or the kalakukko from the Finnish lake region.
In other cases, however, the products do not have a particular cultural link with the territory in which they are offered, or, despite having possessed one in the past, they no longer keep it, because it has now been lost following their diffusion outside the areas of origin (as is the case with pizza and kebab). In some cases, however, the diffusion outside the original cultural boundaries, even wide, has not erased the ethnic and identity connotation.
In the capital, the event will pitch its tents in Piazza San Giovanni Bosco from Thursday 9 to Sunday 12 September. 25 stands, 20 of food and 5 of beer with an offer of regional and international cuisine will allow you to taste typical products such as Abruzzo arrosticini, Apulian bombettes, Tuscan lamprey, Neapolitan fish coppo and the delicacies of Italian gourmet hamburgers. Also present are the trucks with Sicilian products from Palermo, with arancini, ca'meusa bread, cannoli, cassata and an Apulian counter with burnt wheat orecchiette, burrata and the sweet pasticciotto, all from Lecce. In addition to Italian breweries, the public will be able to get to know breweries from the Czech Republic, England and Germany. The review will then move from 16 to 19 to San Severino Marche (Macerata), then to Gorizia and then from 17 to 19 to Cascina (Pisa). The program for the month of September will close in style from 23 to 26 September: International Street Food will touch four different cities at the same time: Udine, Castel Maggiore (Bologna), Modena and Motta di Livenza (Treviso).
