Sardinia's winemaking gems: two Vermentinos and a Cannonau named winners by the Vinodabere 2026 online guide.

At the top of the ranking are Depperu's Ruinas del Fondatore 2022, Tenute Campianatu's Gallura Superiore Campianatu 2023 and Francesco Cadinu's Cannonau Perdas Longas 2023. The top 100 list

Sardinia's winemaking gems: two Vermentinos and a Cannonau named winners by the Vinodabere 2026 online guide.

The pinnacle of Sardinian wine production: 305 wines were reviewed for the 2026 edition of the online guide to the best wines of Sardinia, edited by Maurizio Valeriani and Antonio Paolini. 98 wines received a Standing Ovation, nearly one in three. With three 100/100, Vinodabere (www.vinodabere.it) bows to perfection by crowning two Vermentinos: the 2022 Ruinas del Fondatore by Depperu, the 2023 Gallura Superiore Campianatu by Tenute Campianatu, and a Cannonau di Sardegna, the 2023 Perdas Longas by Francesco Cadinu. All this on a tested label ceiling of just over 700 units. Compared to last year's selection, a significant difference emerges: 100 fewer were tasted. But there is a reason. And it is due in equal parts to the difficulty of a vintage, 2023, which particularly affected the reds (and especially Barbagia), but also to the increased maturity of the producers. They have carefully considered the need to use only the best grapes and have proportionally reduced the range of labels for a year. The result, at least in part, rewarded and consoled them. The 2023 vintages tasted were extremely convincing (they are, after all, two of the three 100/100), with many wines that could be briefly (and perhaps inappropriately) described as basic, but enriched by the forgoing of Reserves and/or Ghiradas, they achieved results, class, and sensations that were truly remarkable. From a territorial point of view, examining the sub-regions of the island, Gallura reaffirms and strengthens its vocation for Vermentino (17 Standing Ovations out of 35 in the Guide) and demonstrates that it has also found a very territorial way of interpreting Cannonau (4 Standing Ovations out of 10 in the Guide). Success for Vermentino also in Romangia (4 Standing Ovations) and in Coros (3 top laurels). A shower of awards then for the now consolidated Mamoiada (12 out of 21 Cannonau in the Guide) which, through the choice to become a wine-making community, makes progress every year with its mountain Cannonau and the increasingly surprising Granazza. Good news also from Orgosolo (3 out of 4 awarded with Standing Ovation) and from Oliena (5 out of 9) which sees a sort of rebirth of its Nepente, increasingly amended from old rusticities that held it back. As for Southern Sardinia, the flag remains Carignano, with 7 Standing Ovations out of 14. And, despite a clear delay in awareness and related communication about the area's potential, Mandrolisai (7 out of 14 awards) is also covered in glory, the only Sardinian sub-region with a DOC dedicated to its territory. Tastings of oxidative wines (Vernaccia di Oristano and Malvasia di Bosa) and sweet wines once again demonstrate the great discrepancy between the extremely high quality and the commercial difficulties these types of products face. Who deserve to earn champions and apostles among those who understand their value. Finally: as the great Totò used to say, it's the sum that makes the total. And the most striking fact is the growing interest the Sardinian wine world sees every year.
