Smoking and cigarettes: from tomorrow new bans and go-ahead for the shocking images on the packages

Close on smoking. Starting tomorrow, February 2, the legislative decree on tobacco which transposes the European directives and which will tighten the restrictions for smokers, also giving the green light to shock images on cigarette packets, to raise awareness of the consequences of smoking (images that will occupy at least 65% of the surface of the packet).

Here are the main rules introduced:

- No smoking outdoors near schools, hospitals, universities. Also prohibited in driving feel, both for the driver and for the passengers, if there are minors or pregnant women on board.

Restrictions on sales to minors: anyone who transgresses the ban is sanctioned with a fine ranging from 500 to 3.000 euros, and his license is suspended for 15 days. In the event of a repeat offense, the fine rises from 1.000 to 8.000 euros, and the license is revoked.

Forbidden the inclusion in the tobacco of additives such as vitamins, caffeine or taurine, and characterizing flavours.

Electronic cigarettes: a notification to the Ministry of Health by the producers is mandatory, containing the list of all the ingredients contained in the product, the toxicological data, the description of the production process, etc. While the refills should be accompanied by a "package leaflet" with instructions for use, list of components, warnings about harmful effects.

Prohibited the sale of packages from ten cigarettes.

– Limit on the sale of loose tobacco: no more than 30 grams. 

– By way of bill on the green economy there are also severe fines for those who throw away cigarette butts (or chewing gum or receipts) on land: from 30 to 300 euros.
