Trenitalia suitcases, restrictions on luggage: only 2 per person. Measures and fines, here are the new rules on the Arrows

Starting from the first of March, Trenitalia has decided to make significant changes to the baggage policy on board the trains Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca. Now, each Trenitalia passenger will be able to bring a maximum of two with them suitcases, respecting rules precise on measures, both in terms of overall length and the longest side. And who doesn't respect them? A fine of 50 euros and the obligation to "unload your luggage at the first station where the train stops", as stated in one note from the railway group. Same script in France: Sncf has imposed a similar restriction on TGV Inoui high-speed trains, but will leave an exemption window until 15 September, to "allow customers to familiarize themselves with the new rules".

This means that, as with the plane, when traveling with Trenitalia there are rules to respect regarding suitcases, starting with the measurements.

Trenitalia, new rules for suitcases: here are the measures

For passengers of service classes Second, Standard e Premium, each bag must have a total sum of the three dimensions (length, width, height) that does not exceed 161 cm. Furthermore, no single dimension can be beyond the 80 cm. For example, a suitcase measuring 80x50x30 cm is acceptable, while one measuring 90x40x30 cm is not.

For those traveling in service classes Fine, Executive e Business, the rules are slightly different. Here, the sum of the dimensions of the luggage can reach up to 183 cm, with a maximum size of side of 120 cm. Obviously the handles, wheels and pockets are also included in the measurements.

Altra news is that every piece of luggage must be appropriately labeled with name e contacts clearly legible. Furthermore, luggage must be placed in the dedicated spaces (they cannot be left near the access doors, in the vestibules, in the corridors) so as not to hinder other passengers or service staff.

The exceptions

However, there are exceptions allowed for certain special items. These include prams, instruments music, bicycles (if dismantled or foldable), skiing e scooters. The total sum of dimensions for these special items must not exceed 200 cm, and the transport bag for scooters and bikes cannot exceed the dimensions of 80x110x45 cm.

In addition to the two suitcases, handbags or bags that fit in the overhead bins or can be placed on the passengers' laps are permitted.

Trenitalia: what do you risk if you don't respect the new rules?

Trenitalia has clarified that there will be no surcharges for the transport of extra baggage. However, those who do not comply with the new rules will be subject to one fine of 50 euros for each infringement. In addition to the fine, passengers will be required to get rid of the "excesses" at the first available stop on the train.

E Italo? At the moment NTV has not yet established a limit on the number of bags allowed on board. However, there is a single luggage restriction in Smart class, which must not exceed the dimensions of 75x53x30 cm.
