May 1, 2026 Strike: General Stoppage for Labor Day

The union Italian Trade Union (Usi-Cit) has proclaimed one 24-hour national general strike which involves all the public and private sectors, particularly public administration, healthcare, education, and research. The mobilization is taking place under the slogan "Defend the rights of all and fight the war" and aims to demand wage increases and a reduction in investment in the military sector. Despite its widespread scope, some sectors are excluded due to rules preventing overlapping strikes in the same sector, including local public transport, rail, air, and maritime transport.

Train and railway strikes in early May

Mid-May strikes: local transport and new general shutdown
