EU: two-stage solution on Greece. New installment immediately, three-year plan in July

Europe still takes time on the Greek debt crisis. While clashes between demonstrators and the forces of order continue in Syntagma Square in Athens, the finance ministers of the euro area, meeting in the Eurogroup in Brussels, are discussing the future of the Balkan country. On Sunday the ministers will decide to disburse the fifth installment of the 110 billion euro loan, as agreed with the IMF, Olli Rehn, the EU commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, told the press.

The Finnish commissioner then added that a decision on the future support program for Greece will be taken on 11 July. The Eurogroup, explained Rehn, will decide, in particular, on the involvement of Athens' private creditors in the stabilization plan.

The project of the EU ministers is therefore to ensure a credit line that ensures liquidity to the Greek government at least until the end of the summer. The idea is to gain a few weeks to develop a three-year plan that puts an end to the risks of contagion and paves the way for the emergency to return.
