Tod's Appoints John Galantic (Ex Chanel) as New CEO. Diego Della Valle Remains Chairman

The waltzing around for the coveted seats of the fashion houses continues. Last on the list is John Galantic, formerly of Chanel, appointed as the new CEO of Tod's, while Diego and Andrea Della Valle remain respectively president and vice president

The group Tod’s has a new CEODiego Della Valle, who over the years has held the dual role of president and CEO, has decided to pass the baton of operational leadership to John Galantic, a manager with proven experience in the luxury sector. Della Valle, however, does not move too far away: in fact, it will retain the charge of president, while the brother Andrea will remain vice president.

In the fast-paced world of fashion, changes of armchair are now the order of the day. Benedetta Petruzzo, eg, will arrive on October 15th at Dior as managing director, after having held the role of CEO in the Prada group and, previously, in Kering Eyewear. At Chanel, Simona Cattaneo has been appointed Fragrance and Beauty President, after having held the role of general manager of the Tod's group. Antonio Marras also has a new CEO: Barbara Calò, formerly of Marni, has a past with prestigious names such as Giorgio Armani and Prada.

John Galantic enters the board by Tod's, which, in addition to the Della Valles, includes Toni Belloni, James Michael Chu, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Domenico De Sole, Romina Guglielmetti, Nikhil Kumar Thukral, Emilio Macellari and Vincenzo Manes. Chu and Thukral are respectively global co-CEO and managing partner of L Catterton, the private equity fund backed by the French LVMH, which supported the Della Valle family in the takeover bid that led to the delisting from Piazza Affari. With the support of L Catterton, the founding family intends to create a new phase of growth for the Italian luxury footwear manufacturer.

Looking at luxury challenges in 2024, Della Valle remains optimistic and expects the weakness to reverse within 7-8 months. The group's goal is to support the Asian markets, which for Tod's represent about 40% of revenues, and strengthen its presence in the United States.

Who is Galantic: the new CEO of Tod's

Galantic, who speaks fluent Italian, brings with him 16 years of experience at Chanel and sits on the boards of Ferrari and Bacardi as a non-executive director. Born in 1961, he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree from Tufts University. He has held high-profile management positions in the United States, Italy and France, and has also served as an advisor to the Roma football team. His latest adventure? President e chief operating officer of the prestigious transalpine brand Chanel. As a note from the Marche-based company underlines, “his proven experience in the luxury sector, with specific skills in brand consolidation, will help the group increase its growth potential globally”.
