On display since 26 September at 15 October at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome will be the works of the finalists of the contemporary photography contest Driving Energy 2023 launched by tender. Its purpose is to promote the cultural development of the country and enhance the young talents working in the sector. The Award, now two years in a row, has received the Medal of the President of the Republic, recognition that is awarded to initiatives that are considered of great importance in the promotion and dissemination of culture. The new theme for the second edition is In Praise of Balance.
The initiative and the theme of this edition
The President of the Palaexpo Special Company, Marco Delogu, has launched an invitation to photographers to participate in the Award, which will be held until June 30, proposing them to interpret the theme of the year: 'In Praise of Balance'. This concept represents a fundamental element of the culture and constitutes the fulcrum of Terna's mission, which guarantees, through dispatching activities, a balance between the energy produced and consumed, contributing to the better functioning of the electricity system and facilitating the energy transition.
Who can participate: the categories
Contestants have until June 30 to earn a spot among the finalists and award winners. There are five categories in the competition, and on the opening day a winner will be chosen for each of the following categories:
- Senior: from 31 years of age the winner will have a prize worth 15 euros;
- Young: up to the age of 30 the winner will receive a prize of 5 euros;
- Amateurs: for those who are neither professionals nor authors, the value of the prize is 5 euros;
- Mention Academy: category dedicated to students enrolled in higher education institutes in the photographic sector, for which the prize will be 2 euros;
- Work most voted by Terna: the prize will also be 2 thousand euros.
The jury and the new Committee
The jury, led by Lorenza Bravetta, consultant in the field of photography and curator of the Photography, Cinema and New Media sector at the Milan Triennale, is composed of Maria Alicata, lecturer and curator, Diane Dufour, editor and curator, Andrea Purgatori, journalist and television author, Francesco Zanot, curator and teacher, and Massimiliano Paolucci, Terna's director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs and Sustainability.
In addition, the jurors are also assisted by the Presidential Committee, made up of Igor De Biasio and Giuseppina di Foggia, Terna's President and Chief Executive Officer, respectively.
A further novelty introduced in the 2023 edition concerns the Governance of the competition, with the creation of the Honorary Committee. This committee aims to facilitate the passing of the baton between the winners of the last edition and the future winner of the new Academy Mention. The Committee will select the winner by evaluating the photographic works presented by students enrolled in higher education institutions in the sector. The members of the Honorary Committee include Paolo Ventura (Senior Award 2022), Gaia Renis (Young Award 2022), Mohamed Keita (Special Mention 2022 'Contemporary Normality'), Eva Frapiccini (Special Mention 2022 'Circularity. Courses and appeals') and Andrea Botto (Mention 2022 – Work most voted by Terna).
The photographic works of the finalists and winners will be published in the fourth edition of the photographic volume Driving Energy, which serves as the official catalog of the Award.
