New Lancia Ypsilon 2024, everything changes. Objective: to relaunch the brand. Here are all the details

Relaunch the Lancia brand. This is the mission of new Lancia Ypsilon, the luxury small car that inaugurates a new era of the brand both from an image and mechanical point of view. The goal is to relaunch the brand starting from scratch. The new Ypsilon, in fact, is the first electric Lance and it is the first to bring with it some of the distinctive elements that will characterize all the new models arriving in the coming years. “With the launch of the new Ypsilon, the Lancia brand is reborn", has explained Luke Napolitano, CEO of Lancia.

Officially presented on February 14, the new Ypsilon has the arduous task of equaling or exceeding the success of the previous version, still at the top of the charts (2nd place) among the best-selling cars in 2023. With over 3,5 million units sold in four generations (since 1985), the Ypsilon has always offered a mix of accessibility and style. However, the new Lancia Ypsilon represents a clear departure from previous generations, with numerous and significant changes.

New Lancia Ypsilon 2024: design and interiors

La new Lancia Ypsilon 2024 represents a significant change compared to the previous generation. In fact, there is a 13 year difference between the two projects. The "egg" shapes have been abandoned in favor of a larger and more elaborate design. With a length of 4,1 meters (4,08 to be exact and 24 cm longer than the previous one) and a completely renewed design, the car adopts a more sporty look, with references to the brand's past, such as the circular headlights similar to those of the legendary Stratos.

The interiors present an important revolution. Two 10,25-inch screens, one dedicated to driving information and infotelematics, renamed “SALA”. Most functions can be controlled through digital panels, reducing physical controls to a minimum. The "panel" with the two monitors rests on a dashboard that is as rational in shape as it is refined in its fabric coverings. In the center stands the designed central table da Cassina, a furniture company from Meda, famous throughout the world for its quality, which also gave its name to first special edition of the Ypsilon.

The seats are made from blue velvet with a “Cannelloni” weave, which recalls the classic cloth used by Lancia in the past.

Bring Lancia back to Europe, three more models on the way

The current mission of Ypsilon and Napolitano is to bring Lancia back to the European markets. The old Lancia was sold exclusively in Italy while the new Ypsilon is aimed at a wider audience.

“It's a different car that caters to a wider audience, heterogeneous, which needs more space even for long journeys, but has not lost its glamorous spirit,” explained Napolitano.

Production of the Ypsilon will begin in April but other models will arrive in the next few years: in 2026 another 4,7 meter electric-only car will land, probably called Gamma which will be produced in Melfi; then it will be the time of aelegant sportback exclusively electric, with the possibility of all-wheel drive thanks to the Stla Medium platform. In this case Napolitano expects sales of 50% in Italy and 50% abroad. Finally, 2028 could be the right time to see the new Delta.
