With the incentives arriving in May, discounts of up to 10 thousand for Plug-in Hybrid cars with emissions between 21 and 60 g/km of CO2 (category M1). Here is a list of the most attractive and interesting models on the Italian market

They will leave in May new incentives for car purchases. The overall budget is 950 million euros for the purchase of low environmental impact vehicles, which include cars, motorcycles, scooters and light commercial vehicles. The official announcement is still missing because, after the signature of Palazzo Chigi, we are awaiting the examination of the Court of Auditors and the publication in the Official Journal of the Prime Ministerial Decree. The application of the new incentives will start with the possibility of booking the car bonus in the first week of May.

The discounts will be valid for i purchase contracts signed in 2024. The only new restriction required is that the vehicle is maintained for at least 12 months. The request for the contribution will be made through the dealers, who will register on the online platform provided by the MISE and apply the discount at the time of purchase, confirming the operation within 180 days. In the latter case, the government is also considering extending the maximum time between purchase and registration of the car from 180 to 270 days, to adapt to the delivery times of car manufacturers. The incentives are also expected to be opened to rental companies that had not taken advantage of them the previous year.

The 2024 incentives for plug-in hybrid cars

With the purchase of aelectric car, you can get discounts up to a maximum of 13.750 euros for those who have a ISEE less than 30 thousand euros. Also bonuses for plug-in hybrid cars, with emissions between 21 and 60 g/km of CO2 (category M1), are very interesting, with an increase in funds compared to the previous year: in 2024 they were allocated 150 million euros.

The incentives are intended for cars with a list price up to 54.900 euros including VAT (therefore within 45 thousand euros without VAT). For plug-in hybrids, therefore, the contribution it starts from 4.000 euros without scrapping, rising to 5.000 euros for those with an ISEE of less than 30.000 euros. With the scrapping of a Euro 2 vehicle, contributions can reach up to 8.000 euros, and up to 10.000 euros for those with an ISEE of less than 30.000 euros.

The Plug-in Hybrid cars they combine the advantages of hybrid cars and fully electric cars. They can operate using only battery energy and can be recharged as quickly as fully electric vehicles. However, they are also equipped with a combustion engine like hybrids, allowing you to travel even when charging is not possible.

Here is a selection of plug-in hybrid vehicles most interesting and appreciated on the market.

Renault Capture E-Tech

Renault Capture E-Tech is one of more affordable plug-in hybrid cars on the market. Equipped with a 1,6 HP 91-liter petrol engine and two electric motors for a total of 160 HP, it offers a range of up to 50 km in fully electric mode. Although the space on board is adequate, the boot is limited due to the 9,8 kWh battery positioned under the floor, offering a capacity of 265-379 litres. Charging times are standard, with 5 hours via a domestic socket and 3 hours with a fast charging station or wallbox.

It is currently the automaker's best-selling model in Italy, with 5.400 registrations in the first two months of 2024, ranking as the tenth best-selling car overall. In the last month, it recorded 2.919 registrations, positioning itself as the ninth best-selling car in Italy in February 2024.

The Captur E-Tech Full Hybrid 145 balance version is offered at a price price of 21.550 euro instead of 26.850 euros, with a discount of 5.300 euros. The loan includes an advance of 3.300 euros, 36 installments of 120 euros per month and a final installment of 16.916 euros.

Peugeout 3008

The price list of the Peugeot 41.200 plug-in in the basic Active pack trim starts at 3008 euros. Instead, 43.050 euros are needed to purchase the Allure pack version. In the first case the amount drops to 37.200 euros with the scrapping of another vehicle, while with the 2.000 euro incentive without scrapping the amount reaches 41.050 euros for the Allure pack version. This model, present in the top 15 of the cars preferred by Italians during 2023 with 1.596 examples registered, is powered by a Hybrid 180 e-Eat8 plug-in powertrain with a 1,6-litre 150 HP petrol engine combined with a 110 HP electric unit. According to what was declared by the company, CO2 emissions are equal to 38 g/km.

Another model from the French company that is attractive in plug-in mode is the Peugeot 308, one of the most popular rechargeable hybrids among compact C-segment cars. Equipped with a 150 HP petrol engine (or 180 HP for the most powerful GT version, with 225 HP total) coupled with a 110 HP electric motor, it offers a autonomy of up to 66 km in fully electric mode thanks to the 12,4 kWh battery.

Jeep Renegade

In 2023, Jeep Renegade it was the third best-selling model among plug-in hybrid cars, with 3.977 units sold. Emissions are claimed at 41 g/km. Jeep Renegade 4xE is the plug-in version of the popular B-SUV, considered one of the most affordable plug-in hybrids. It features a 1.3 turbo petrol engine coupled to a 60 HP rear electric unit, offering two power versions, 190 HP and 240 HP. The 11,4 kWh battery allows for an electric range of 50 km and can be recharged in 3,5 hours with the Wallbox. The list price for the Limited trim starts at 42.400 euros with a 1.3 HP 190 Turbo engine. With the scrapping of another vehicle, the price drops to 38.400 euros, while state incentives bring it to 40.400 euros. Jeep Renegade 1.5 T4 e-Hybrid 130 HP DCT Limited with a list price of 33.400 euros can be obtained at a price of 28.100 euros.

MG Ehs

MG EHS is the cheapest plug-in hybrid on the Italian market, offering an excellent quality-price-equipment ratio.

This SUV features a clean and dynamic design, with a 162 HP petrol engine coupled to a 122 HP electric one and a 16,6 kWh battery, allowing a range of 52 km in fully electric mode in the mixed cycle. MG EHS can be purchased starting from 24.640 euro.

Cupra Formentor E-Hybrid

La Cupra Formentor E-Hybrid it is the fourth best-selling PHEV model on the Italian market in 2023, with CO2 emissions between 28 and 33 g/km. The Cupra Formentor, in its E-Hybrid version, is one of the most affordable plug-in hybrid cars on the market. The 1.4 e-Hybrid variant, with 204 HP and six-speed DSG automatic transmission, has a list price starting from 43.850 euros, while the 245 HP version requires 51.950 euros. With the scrapping of another vehicle, the price drops to 47.950 euros, while with state incentives without scrapping it stands at 49.950 euros.

It features a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to an electric motor for a total power of 204 HP and 245 HP (for the VZ version), both with DSG automatic transmission. The range varies from 59 to 55 km in fully electric mode, with consumption of 1,2 and 1,4 liters per 100 km. Charging times are average, with 3,5 hours for the Wallbox and 5 hours for home charging.

Audi Sportback A3

THEAudi A3 Sportback TFSI-e is among the twenty models preferred by Italians in 2023, with 1.035 registrations over the year. The Audi A3 Sportback TFSI e is the plug-in hybrid version of the premium compact car, equipped with a 1.4-litre petrol engine coupled to a 190 HP electric motor. The list price starts from 44.000 euros for the 204 HP version, but with the scrapping of another vehicle it is possible to purchase it for around 40.000 euros, while without scrapping the price rises to 42.000 euros. CO2 emissions are declared at 31 g/km. The range in fully electric mode varies from 59 to 67 km, with a consumption between 14,1 and 15,4 kWh/100 km.

Ford Kuga

La Ford Kuga has captured a significant market share of 8,8% of plug-in hybrids, with 6.178 registrations in 2023. Starting January 1, 2024, the Blue Oval's C-SUV is available at a list price which starts from 44.650 euros for the 225 HP plug-in hybrid version with the St-Line setup. With the scrapping of another vehicle, the base price drops to 40.650 euros, while without scrapping but with state incentives it reaches 42.650 euros. The maximum range declared by the company in electric mode is 75/88 km, with CO2 emissions equal to 22 g/km.

Vauxhall Astra Hybrid

Vauxhall Astra Hybrid represents the economical plug-in hybrid option of the German compact car. Equipped with a 1.6 HP 150 turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and a 110 HP electric motor, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it offers a total power of 180 HP with a 12,4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The range in fully electric mode is 58 km. The base price starts from 43.450 euros, but with discounts it is possible to obtain a price lower than 40.000 euros.

Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

La new Toyota Prius fifth generation is a plug-in hybrid with 223 HP and very low consumption and emissions levels. It offers a range of up to 86 kilometers in fully electric mode and has a starting list price of 42.200 euros. In an urban environment, where speeds are reduced, the autonomy can be even greater and is often sufficient for daily travel without using the combustion engine.

Alfa Romeo Junior

The plug-in hybrid models also include the new Alfa Romeo Junior. The name is not a mistake, but it is the new name assigned to Alfa Romeo Milano. The decision was taken after concerns expressed by Minister Urso, who highlighted that a car called “Milano” should not be produced in Poland as it would break the rules of Italian Sounding.

The Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida Speciale, with a 1,2-litre engine and 136 HP of power, records CO2 emissions of 117 g/km. The maximum list price is set at 42.700 euros including VAT. By meeting the requirements for the bonus, it is possible to obtain a 3.000 euro discount by scrapping a Euro 0, 1 or 2 car, 2.000 euros for a Euro 3 vehicle and 1.500 euros for a Euro 4. You can therefore arrive at a final price of 28.900 EUR. Without vehicles to be scrapped, there is no bonus.

Another Biscione model to take into consideration is theAlfa Romeo tonal. The list price starts from 39.350 euros, but for the 4 HP Q280 plug-in hybrid version the cost is 51.700 euros. By scrapping another vehicle, it is possible to purchase the Biscione C-SUV at a price of 47.700 euros including VAT, while with only state incentives the final price is 49.700 euros. The CO2 emissions declared by the company are equal to 30 g/km in the WLTP combined cycle.
