After the appointment of Edouard Philippe, Juppé's former right-hand man, as prime minister, the composition of the new government of the Macron era was completed today: pending the legislative elections scheduled in a month's time, the new executive is already marked by broad agreements (and female quotas, given that there are 9 male and 9 female ministers). In fact, one of the key ministries, that of the Economy, went to the Republican Bruno Le Maire, former chief of cabinet of Dominique de Villepin and then twice minister with François Fillon (Sarkozy presidency), Macron's opponent in the last presidential elections. Le Maire boasts a prestigious curriculum in the political and diplomatic fields, he is 48 years old and is the son of the manager of the Total group Maurice Le Maire: yes to Macron however cost him the immediate expulsion from the party.
Instead, he was promoted to Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian, historical exponent of the Socialist Party, originally from the stronghold of Brittany and outgoing defense minister under Hollande's presidency. Le Drian was one of the socialists who first supported Macron's candidacy, and the prime minister's seat was also envisaged for a moment. Breton and socialist, he is also the new Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Richard Ferrand, who was the very first deputy to join the En Marche movement, effectively becoming a lieutenant of Macron.
The centrist François Bayrou, who withdrew from the last presidential elections precisely to leave the field free for Macron, obtained in exchange a hundred nominations in the legislative lists and a seat as Minister of Justice. On the other hand, the mayor of Lyon ended up in the Interior Gérard Collomb, exponent of the Socialist Party and son of a worker and trade unionist.
Also noteworthy is the nomination of two very popular figures in France: the Ecological Transition was entrusted to the well-known environmentalist Nicolas Hulot, historic presenter of the Ushuaia TV program and long-time involved in politics, while Sport went to the fencing champion Laura Flessel, originally from Guadeloupe and multiple Olympic medalist.
