It is born Peridot Solar, a new company for the development and construction of photovoltaic systems. The company has offices in London and Milan, with a team of 30 experienced in the development, construction and operation of photovoltaic systems across Europe. Peridot Solar has indeed projects for over 1 GW in Italy and Great Britain between now and 2026, and is a company that is part of the investment portfolio of FitzWalter Capital, an international private investment fund which is the financial partner of the project.

Also, Peridot Solar is about to start building photovoltaic plants for 120MW in Italy and 60MW in Great Britain. Two Italian plants are already in the start-up phase. This is a 33 MW plant in Tarquinia in Lazio and another in Ottana in Sardinia, with the same power. The construction procedures for two other plants in Sardinia will soon be launched: one of 30 MW in Fiumesanto in the coming weeks, while the fourth will be operational from July in Carbonia for another 30 MW. With the commissioning of the first four plants alone, an electricity production is calculated which will allow for savings of a quantity of natural gas equivalent to 1,3% of Italian gas imports from Russia.

Peridot Solar: why photovoltaics help reduce dependence on Russia

“The energy sector is experiencing a moment of profound change due to the conflict in Ukraine and related geopolitical tensions,” says the Managing Director of Peridot Solar, Maximus Wisdom. “Solar can reduce energy dependence on Russia in the short to medium term and generate clean energy. To seize this opportunity and be part of the solution, it is necessary to develop projects across Europe. Peridot Solar has the experience and capital partner to build one of Europe's leading solar development companies. But to seize this opportunity it is necessary to speed up projects in individual European countries: Peridot Solar intervenes in this field with the ambition of demonstrating that a sector such as that of renewable energy can emerge from uncertainty with a decisive intervention of important financial capital" .

AndrewGray, partner at FitzWalter Capital, “The rise in energy bills is a clear reminder that accelerated investment in solar generation is needed to reduce gas dependence and to meet UK and European emissions targets”.
