Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro lights up green: Enel's lights on one of the 7 wonders of the world

“A surprise for the cariocas”, they defined it on the social pages of Enel Brazil and del Christ Redeemer. In fact, it is not known the scenographic effect of the inauguration of the new eco-sustainable lighting system of one of the 7 wonders of the world modern, the one that overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro. What is certain, however, is that the great event, on the Italian night between Thursday 17 and Friday 18 March, is all Made in Italy as it is signed by the Enel subsidiary, which in the largest South American country is the first electricity company with 18,3, 4,3 million customers, and is also a leader in solar and wind, with a total renewable capacity of XNUMX GW.

Rio's Christ the Redeemer illuminated by Enel

To be precise, the project is being carried out by Enel Distribuição Rio and will offer one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world a new plant which will allow energy saving but also greater sharpness of the images and better resolution of the colors that will be projected over time onto Christ the Redeemer, the 38-metre-high Deco-style statue that stands on the Corcovado hill, and which just last autumn celebrated its 90th anniversary since its construction, which took place in 1931 after almost 10 years of work.

When Guglielmo Marconi illuminated Christ the Redeemer

Already on October 12 of that year, Christ the Redeemer linked his story to Italy, since that day the light bulbs of the statue were lit for the first time via a radio impulse launched from Rome, by Guglielmo Marconi himself.

The fact was commemorated a few months ago, when Christ was tinged with the tricolor in honor of Marconi and this Enel event is also part of the "90 anos de luz" ("90 years of light") project, which includes a series of events and celebrations of the anniversary.

The lighting ceremony of the new Christ, which is attended by the country manager of Enel Brazil Nicola Cotugno and all the local authorities, is accompanied by the Mariuccia Iacovino Orchestra and a light show.

The Christ of Rio de Janeiro, which welcomes millions of visitors every year, was included in 2007 among the 7 wonders of the modern world: it keeps company with the Colosseum, Macchu Picchu, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Chichen Itzs and other Petra.
