Investments of at least 100 million euros. This is what Ferrovie dello Stato promises, under accusation for the disastrous management of the frost and snow emergency. Objective: to strengthen the main metropolitan nodes, starting with Rome, and avoid repeating the embarrassment of the last few days.
Meanwhile, the managing director of FS apologizes, admitting the mistakes he made. “Mistakes were made, which we will not repeat. And we owe the passengers an apology”, says Renato Mazzoncini in an interview with La Repubblica, explaining that the entire Lazio network will be equipped with anti-snow and anti-ice systems. Until now, this investment was considered "unjustified" - and therefore prevented by law - because the previous snowfalls in Rome had occurred on average every 28 years (in 1956, 1985 and 2012). This time, however, just six have passed since the last one, so the picture has changed and the investment becomes possible.
Italo was also involved in the cancellations and delays who, with a press release informs "that he has suffered cancellations and delays today (Tuesday, ed) caused by serious network infrastructure problems, as happened on Monday”. The inconveniences are not over yet so much so that, adds Italo, "the network manager has requested the cancellation of services also for tomorrow, Wednesday". The company "apologizes for the disservice not dependent on its responsibility from which it is seriously damaged and has already taken action for the due refunds".
Returning to Fs and Rfi, as a first step, in the next few days "heaters" will be installed on all points, i.e. the devices that automatically heat and unblock the tracks in case of snow and ice.
In this way, Rfi and Fs will also begin to respond to requests from the Minister of Transport. Enraged by Monday's debacle, Graziano Delrio had asked the top management of the two companies to "solve once and for all" the fragility of the infrastructure in case of bad weather.
As for the situation in the stations, yesterday about 50% of the regional trains of Lazio and 80% of the high-speed ones circulated. But inconveniences have occurred in half of Italy and Italo as Trenitalia announce other cancellations for today. Now there is waiting for the report requested by Delrio from Mazzoncini to officially clarify the causes of all this.
