In the first eight months of the year, the consumption of petrol and diesel for motor vehicles fell by 0,5%. This was communicated by the Ministry of Economic Development, specifying that, despite the contraction, expenditure increased by 5,4 billion (+15% on an annual basis) of which 1,2 billion in the tax authorities' coffers.
The data were processed by the Centro Studi Promotor GL events, according to which the drop in consumption was due both to the weakness of the economy and to the sharp increases in pump prices which, according to Istat, grew on an annual basis by 16,1 % for petrol and as much as 20,3% for diesel. And ”the situation – concludes the CSP – is obviously destined to worsen with the increase in VAT introduced by the maneuver just approved by Parliament”.
