Bank of Italy, ok to Visco from the Council of Ministers

A hasty Council of Ministers approved the confirmation of Ignazio Visco as governor of the Bank of Italy. The government meeting began on time in Palazzo Chigi immediately after the Superior Council of Bank of Italy he had approved the indication, sent by letter from Paolo Gentiloni on Thursday afternoon, with which the outgoing governor was designated.

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers - however - some ministers were absent. The patrol of Renzian ministers should be noted: Graziano Delrio, Maurizio Martina, Maria Elena Boschi and Luca Lotti were missing. To these, we must add the Minister of Health Beatrice Lorenzin (Ap). Maurizio Martina is busy in Naples with the programmatic conference of the Democratic Party which he organized as deputy secretary of the Dems; Luca Lotti is busy in Modena and Beatrice Lorenzin is in Sicily. On the other hand, Graziano Delrio and Maria Elena Boschi would be absent for health reasons, an influence – someone noted – that happened to proristosto, after the tough stance of the secretary of the Democratic Party Matteo Renzi against the reappointment of Visco in Via Nazionale.

Now the word passes to the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella who will have to sign the nomination decree. This will complete the nomination process. For Visco, in his second six-year term, the first appointment will be Savings Day on 31 October.
