"Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum”, the summit dedicated to the sustainable transition of fashion supply chain, promoted by Sistema Moda Italia, The European House – Ambrosetti and Confindustria Veneto Est – Metropolitan Area Venice Padua Rovigo Treviso will be held in Venice, at the Giorgio Cini Foundation, on 26 and 27 October.
“Boosting Transition” is the title chosen for the 2023 edition of the Forum
The objective is to underline the urgency of effective and coordinated interventions that allow concrete results to be achieved in reducing theenvironmental and social impact of the fashion industry. The invitation is addressed to all the actors in the supply chain, in particular to the institutions, the political world and the legislator, to promote a cohesive approach also through a homogeneous regulatory system. It will also be an opportunity to launch an appeal to finance which, with its key role in supporting businesses, can allow the protagonists of the industry not only to achieve the ambitious objectives established by the European Union, but also to join a new concept of competitiveness that goes beyond the price factor.
The need to be aligned with new standards shared at an international level is increasingly stringent. This can be seen from the fact that, in just one year, the top 100 fashion companies Europeans have increased their sustainability measures 17% in ESG areas, confirming a dynamically changing sector. However, of the 100 companies analysed, the best-in-class meets only 70% of the ESG maturity requirements: the path towards sustainability is, even for the best, uphill.
The data is a preview of the 2nd edition of "Just Fashion Transition 2023", the permanent observatory on the sustainable transition of the key fashion, clothing, footwear and leather goods supply chains of The European House of Ambrosetti. The strategic study, which will be presented at the opening of the summit, analyzed over 2.700 Italian and European companies, evaluated the ESG performance of 366 companies in the supply chain, carried out a comparison with 21 sector experts and conducted policy intelligence on 32 regulatory instruments that affect directly the future of European fashion.
The first day, October 26th
During the first day of the Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum the major geopolitical scenarios that influence the issue of sustainability and climate change at a global level will be addressed. As regards social sustainability, the implications of fast fashion, the issue of workers' human rights, the role of activism and consumer awareness in light of growing economic and social inequalities will be investigated. The paradigm shift towards a circular model will be explored in depth by the virtuous companies of the supply chain and with the help of authoritative experts, including representatives of Euratex, a European association representing the Textile-Clothing supply chain. The topic of climate change will be treated by analyzing some of the main environmental impact factors, from the emissions of polluting substances to the consumption and contamination of water, up to the effects on biodiversity. The discussion will focus on the key role of innovation as a factor that enables and accelerates the transition towards sustainable fashion. Entrepreneurs in the sector will also share good practices and effective solutions to combine competitiveness and resilience with a responsible approach.
The second day, October 27th
The second day will be dedicated to regulations and sustainable finance and possible new solutions to global challenges, from reuse to ecodesign, up to new business models to meet consumer expectations.
