The American balance of trade is tipping increasingly in the wrong direction. According to data provided today by the US Department of Commerce, a deficit of 50,2 billion dollars was recorded in May in foreign trade. A nice increase, considering that in April alone the red was 43,6 billion. In detail, imports increased by 2,6% to 225,1 billion dollars, while exports fell by 0,5% to 174,9 billion dollars.
Bad news that the Obama administration really didn't need, engaged in these days in a difficult political mediation to raise the sovereign debt ceiling and avoid the country's technical default. This is also an unexpected fact: analysts' estimates were much less negative. The expected trade deficit was 43,7 billion.
