Fast connection throughout the route Milan-Bolognaincluding galleries. This is what was announced by Italian FS Group which explains with Tim to have activated the first mobile radio coverage system with 4G technology in the tunnels of the Milan-Bologna high-speed section, thus obtaining complete coverage.
4G technology, a note specifies, allows passengers to take advantage of a stable and high-quality connection even in the most unfavorable areas such as railway tunnels, both through the on-board train WiFi service and through direct coverage by all operators who have joined the project: Tim in the front row but also iliad, Vodafone e WindTre.
But it will not be the only portion of the territory to be covered by this technological innovation. Work to upgrade to 4G technology will also start on the high-speed sections between Bologna e Florence, to then continue during 2023 from Torino a Milano, from Florence to Napoli and from Bologna to Venice. All of this, of course, not only for the benefit of passengers on high-speed trains, but also for those traveling on other types of trains, such as InterCity or regional trains.
The activation of the plants on the Milan-Bologna line represents the first step of the agreement signed in December 2021 between the infrastructure manager RFI (of the FS Group) and Tim. Furthermore, as part of the initiatives related to the PNRR feasibility studies relating to the possible use of 5G technologies are planned.
