Italy divided in two on the first Sunday of the summer. If the wave of torrid heat continues in the South, with highs of up to 40°C, in the North the situation is reversed: the long-awaited respite from the sultriness and heat has arrived, but there have also been violent rains and thunderstorms which have caused floods and landslides.
Particularly impressed the Veneto, where in Vicenza a coach got stuck in a flooded underpass, no passengers were injured. In the next few hours, the mayor of Vittorio Veneto will proceed with the request for a state of calamity following a very violent hailstorm. Water bomb in South Tyrol, with serious inconvenience created for homes and shops in Bolzano.
Flooding and difficulties also in Lombardia, with the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo particularly affected. The rain also came on Milan, after the last few days of record heat. The Civil Protection has issued a moderately critical alarm due to bad weather, monitoring the Seveso and Lambro rivers.
"To the center-south where – say Meteo.it meteorologists – rainfall will continue to be scarce or absent with a further accentuation of the heat in the middle of the week. In particular in the South where, also due to moderate southerly winds, temperature peaks around 40%"
The record heat continues also in the Brands, with maximum temperatures more than 4 degrees higher than the average for the period and Ancona "red dot".
La Coldiretti launches a crop alarm. Minimum temperatures were 2,9 degrees above average, while there was 79% less rain than last year. Fodder for animal feed records production drops of up to 30-40%. Sunflowers and vegetables are also suffering (from salads to zucchini, from tomatoes to celery, from melons to watermelons), and fruit trees. But it is also an emergency in stables: heat stress causes cows to produce up to 20% less milk.
