Sergio Marchionne he will leave the leadership of Fiat at the end of 2018, when the five-year business plan of the new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group will be archived.

"No doubt I'll do something else after that – said the manager in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek -, but I don't intend to do other company turnarounds, I've done my part, let's leave room for young people".

As for the successor, “there are several things that the next CEO will have to do and which are totally different from what I do – added Marchionne -. My role will have to be reconfigured."

According to the president of Lingotto, John Elkann, Fiat Chrysler can count on strong internal candidates for Marchionne's succession: "I have faith in our bench". The American weekly recalls that last year Elkann cited several managers of the group as possible replacements for Marchionne, including Richard Tobin, CEO of CNH Industrial, Alfredo Altavilla, chief operating officer of the EMEA region for FCA, Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand, and Cledorvino Belini, head of Fiat in Brazil.

Elkann then clarified some issues related to the merger and listing in New York: "I don't want to sell, but the family could dilute its share if there was the possibility of making the company stronger through merger operations".

At the beginning of the afternoon, the Fiat stock on Piazza Affari was up 0,83%, a 7,305 euro.
