The EU searches the offices of the major European telephone operators

The EU antitrust authority has carried out searches of the offices of Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefonica on suspicion that they have abused their dominant internet connection position.

The EU commission reported that it had searched the offices of some providers in several countries on July 9, without identifying the companies. Deutsche Telekom and Orange have confirmed the raids. A source close to the matter confirmed that Telefonica was also raided and that only three companies are involved. Telefonica declined to comment.

Companies held responsible for breaching EU rules risk fines amounting to 10% of their global turnover.
