In April the industrial production Italy rose by 0,7% in the quarter (seasonally adjusted data) and by 0,1% year-on-year (raw data). On equal working days, the index marks +1,6% on year, the highest figure since August 2011. In the quarter, industrial production remained unchanged according to the raw index, which measures effective output, while it rose by 0,8% according to the corrected one. The data was released this morning by Istat.
The Statistical Institute also confirmed that in the first quarter the GDP Italian fell by 0,1% on a quarterly basis and by 0,5% on a trend basis. This is the tenth consecutive contraction on an annual basis, but in any case the smallest since the fourth quarter of 2011. The change acquired for 2014 is equal to -0,2%. In trend terms, added value increased by 0,2% in agriculture, while it recorded negative changes in all other sectors of the economy (-0,5% in industry, -1,7% in construction and - 0,2% in services).
On the front of consumption, on the other hand, the first signs of a slight recovery are arriving: again according to Istat, in the first quarter the spending of resident households marked an increase of 0,1% compared to the previous quarter. The latest increase was recorded in the fourth quarter of 2010. In trend terms, however, the figure is still negative, marking a decrease of 0,6%.
