Istat: Gian Carlo Blangiardo new president

Gian Carlo Blangiardo is the new president of the National Institute of Statistics. The constitutional affairs commissions of the Senate and of the Chamber have given the go-ahead for his appointment. The parliamentary majority voted in favor of Blangiardo, strongly supported by the League, with the support of Forza Italia. In detail, there were 33 votes in favor in Montecitorio, while at Palazzo Madama there were 18 votes in favour, 5 against and one abstention.

The appointment will become effective after the promulgation of the decree of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

Born in 1948, Catholic, expert in demography, Blangiardo is the current deputy director of the Department of Statistics and Quantitative Methods of the Bicocca University of Milan

The name of Blangiardo at the helm of Istat had already circulated this summer. The new president was then indicated by the Council of Ministers last November on the proposal of the Minister of Public Administration Giulia Bongiorno.
