Intesa Sanpaolo consolidates his own position of protagonist on the US financial market. Through the IMI Corporate & Investment Banking Division, the group led by Carlo Messina has participated in the last three years in strategic operations for a total value of approximately 50 billion dollars, confirming the first Italian bank in project finance and a major international player in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and digitalization.
On the occasion of the International Monetary Fund's autumn meetings in Washington, a delegation from the IMI CIB Division, led by Mauro Micillo, reiterated the group's commitment to further strengthening its presence overseas.
“Recent operations confirm the solidity of our presence in the United States and the ability to mobilize capital in one of the most competitive environments in the world,” Micillo stated. “The US administration's initiatives in areas such as infrastructure, innovation, and artificial intelligence offer new opportunities, and our Division is ready for an increasingly active and long-term commitment.”
Intesa Sanpaolo in the US: Growth Beyond the Market
In the first eight months of 2025, global volumes of project finance have exceeded 200 billion euros, with IMI CIB involved in operations for over 30 billion, equal to approximately 15% of the global market. In the United States, between 2018 and 2024, volumes grew by an average of 20% per year, but the Intesa Sanpaolo division's activity grew at an even faster rate, approaching 34% annually, a sign of an increasingly entrenched and competitive presence.
To support this trajectory, the Structured Finance team in the United States has been strengthened, with new resources and skills, to strengthen customer relationships and consolidate the group's position in a strategic market.
