Former CEO of Enel Green Power, the mItalian anager Antonio Cammisecra he has been CEO of for just over a year OutlineGlobal, energy company acquired in 2022 by the US fund kkr with a two billion euro takeover bid. ContourGlobal, which has its headquarters in Milan, is a developer, Global owner and operator over 6,2 gigawatts of clean electricity generation plants around the world, and has recently turned its attention to South America and in particular to Chile, where a few days ago Cammisecra, strongly wanted at the helm by Kkr, has inaugurated together with local authorities the innovative photovoltaic system di Quillagua, located in the municipality of Maria Elena, in the Antofagasta region. Quillagua will not be just any power plant, but one with a capacity of 221 MWp and above all with a 1,2 GWh battery storage system, that is, capable of providing 200 MW of solar energy even at night, for 6 hours after sunset: from today it is the photovoltaic plant with the largest storage system in Latin America.
An even larger photovoltaic project
And that's not all. Quillagua is part of a even larger project which includes another similar structure in the Tarapacá region: this is the Central Victor Jara, with 231 MWp of photovoltaic solar energy and 1,3 GWh of battery storage, which will be ready in the second half of the year, several months ahead of the initial plan. This portfolio, whose projects overall count on 452 MWp of solar capacity and 2,5 GWh of battery storage, once fully operational, will generate approximately 1.300 GWh per year, positioning ContourGlobal as a Major renewable operator in Chile, a highly strategic country where the company would also like to exploit theenormous potential of the Atacama Desert, to develop projects with energy storage in batteries (Bess) long-term. The Chilean investment has so far generated 313 direct jobs, involving workers of six nationalities and 176 indirect jobs. It has also involved the installation of more than 452.000 solar panels, 5.000 solar trackers, 267 battery storage modules, 44 transformation centers and 90 inverters, ensuring the creation of almost 20 permanent jobs for its continuous operation.
