Through its subsidiary Italferr, the Italian State Railways has been awarded a new contract for the construction of the infrastructure and the development of a new high-speed line in the Baltic Republics - The Rail Baltica project will improve connectivity between the three Baltic countries (Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania) and the entire European transport network

The FS Italiane Group has been awarded a new contract for the development of the new high speed line high-speed Rail Baltica. Through its engineering company, Italferr, the railway group will build the infrastructure that aims to connect Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

In particular, Italferr – in partnership with Systra and Egis – will handle the supply of engineering and project management services for the preparation, procurement and supervision of the construction of the Rail Baltica control-command and signaling subsystem.

In reality, the FS Italiane Group – through its subsidiary – is already present in the Rail Baltica project. As of April 2021, the engineering company had signed up in consortium with the German company Deutsche Bahn and the Spanish Idom the contract to support the electrification of the new high-speed line.

The Rail Baltica project is managed by the intergovernmental agency RB Rail AS with a total investment of 5.8 billion euros (85% financed by the European Union). It includes 870 kilometers of new double-track interoperable high-speed line for the transport of passengers and goods, across the three Baltic countries, seven passenger stations and three new multimodal freight terminals, and further connections with airports and ports.

Furthermore, the new railway line it will allow a maximum speed of 249 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains and will be equipped with the ERTMS system (European Rail Traffic Management System).
