Italian Railway Network, a company of the Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) Group, has announced in a note that they will be activated onHigh Speed Rome-Naples Primi anti-seismic detection systems, known as Early warning system (Ews). The work, developed by the Physics Department of the University of Naples Federico II with the support of the Railway Technical Research Institute (Rtri), will be able to detect the very first seismic wavesThe data will be transmitted in real time and analyzed by software so as to be able to determine the area affected by the seismic motion.

Thanks to one capillary network of sensors e accelerometric stations connected by a fibre optic network located along the line travelled by the High Speed, the Early warning system detects the data which will be analysed as soon as it is received, activating in case safety protocolsThe data is studied by railway system devices which, if necessary, they will slow down the train's progress or, directly, the they will arrestOnly after analyzing all the data will the railway system decide how to proceed and whether restore circulation of trains.
