Frecciarossa direct Rome-Pompeii at the start. Here are times, costs and dates

History meets modernity. The new one was presented today direct Frecciarossa train that will connect Rome a Pompei. The initiative, born from the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Italian State Railways, will make it possible to move directly from the capital to one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world.

Thanks to the new Frecciarossa, travelers will be able to immerse themselves in the exceptional archaeological site of Pompeii quickly and easily.

First trip Sunday 16th July

The maiden voyage will start on Sunday 16 July from Rome Termini by Frecciarossa train 9693. The train, which is scheduled every third Sunday of the month, will allow you to reach Pompeii from Rome in just hour and minutes 47. On the way, passengers will be immersed in history of the ancient city thanks to a clip specially broadcast on monitors onboard. The video will provide an overview of the history of Pompeii and the important excavations that began during the Bourbon period.

Timetables and Prices

The Frecciarossa 9693 train will leave from Rome Termini at 8.53. After a stop in Napoli Afragola at 9.48 and in Napoli Centrale at 10.03, will arrive in Pompeii at 10.40. The cost of the trip (one hour and 47 minutes) will be 29.90 euros in the standard Supereconomy category. For the return, the Frecciarossa 9568 train will leave from the Pompei at 18.40, coming to Rome Termini at 20.55, with a total duration of two hours and fifteen minutes. During the journey, passengers will be offered the opportunity to purchase entrance tickets to the Pompeii excavations.

Rome and Pompeii are now closer

The new Frecciarossa Rome-Pompeii was presented this morning in the presence of the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, the managing director of the FS Group Luigi Ferraris and the general director of the Museums Massimo Osanna.

“Rome and Pompeii are now closer” said the minister Sangiulian. "The new connection represents many advantages, but above all that of allowing the many tourists arriving from abroad to be able to admire the wonders of the capital and the suggestive buried city of Pompeii in the same stay". Furthermore, explained the minister “The connection not only has a strong evocative power, but with this new section we also honor the first railway line in the Italian peninsula, the Naples-Portici. For a journey between past, present and future. Thanks to the train we combine tradition and modernity”.

“We field the maximum expression of Italian excellence in high speed which is the Frecciarossa 1000 which today allows us to take a dip into history. With the new Frecciarossa we link art with modernity. Let's start this path I'm sure it will be the first of a long series” said the Chief Executive Officer of the FS Group, Luigi Ferraris.
