Italy-Mozambique Forum: Confindustria Assafrica welcomes Minister Tonela to explore business opportunities

Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo he held a Business Forum Italy – Mozambique in Milan, which was attended by over one hundred institutional and business representatives from the two countries.

The event was organized in collaboration with theEmbassy of Mozambique in Italy and the Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX), with the support of Assolombarda.

The Italy-Mozambique Business Forum followed the official visits to Mozambique of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on 13 October 2023, during which they met with the President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi.

The Forum also served as the first meeting between business representatives ahead of the upcoming EU-Mozambique Investment Forum, planned for 22 and 23 November in Maputo.

Dal Checco: discussing trade and investments between Italy and Mozambique

The works were opened by Massimo Dal Checco, President of Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo, who wanted to underline how "in the wake of the recent renewed political will to expand and strengthen cooperation between our two countries, today's Forum allows us to discuss on how to accelerate trade and investments between Italy and Mozambique through the strengthening of partnerships and develop Mozambican growth projects in which Italian companies can play a leading role, for solid, relevant and prolonged development".

Tonela: opportunity to present investment opportunities in Mozambique

The Mozambican delegation was led by the Minister of Economy and Finance of Mozambique, Ernesto Max Tonela, It's composed by over 20 companies. The Minister outlined opportunities for collaboration in the energy, oil and gas, agribusiness, infrastructure and logistics sectors. These sectors were further discussed in bilateral meeting sessions between Italian and Mozambican companies in the afternoon.

“The forum was an opportunity to present the high potential of the Mozambican economy and the investment opportunities still to be explored which, if adequately exploited, can represent mutual gains for our countries. We have seen great interest during the various panels and we hope that the opportunities will be capitalized and bear fruit in the near future” declared Tonela.

Two Memoranda of Understanding signed

During the event, Confindustria Assafrica & Mediterraneo signed two MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with APIEX e Eurocam-Mozambique to enhance cooperation, information exchange and synergies between Italian and Mozambican companies. These agreements involve a variety of Italian companies, including large industrial groups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with interests and operations both in the country and on the African continent.
