i started redevelopment works offormer Pininfarina factory in Grugliasco, supported by Intesa Sanpaolo. In the area will rise the innovative headquarters and production center of Sargomma Benefit Society, an Italian rubber molded company.

La foundation stone was laid today during a celebratory event with the presence of the Institutions, including the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio and the Mayor of the City of Grugliasco. Stefano Cappellari, Intesa Sanpaolo Regional Director Piedmont North, Valle d'Aosta and Sardinia, wanted to represent the virtuous collaboration by symbolically placing a euro in the foundations of the first pillar.

The recovery plan of the area

Sargomma SB and the City of Grugliasco had announced the recovery of approximately 11.000 square meters in a state of abandonment in the spring of 2019. The design and preparation works for the actual demolition of the old 50s factory body had also continued during the pandemic period. L'final goal, shared with the City of Grugliasco, goes far beyond the industrial project, aiming at the redevelopment of the entire context that orbits the area: greater employment, cultural contamination and training offer.

Intesa Sanpaolo supported Sargomma SB from the early stages of the project. The banking group supports the company from a supply chain perspective, accompanying it in a process of competitive growth and expansion, which will also involve other realities of the Piedmontese automotive sector. Both for the new construction part and for the recovery of some portions of the existing buildings and services, Sargomma SB will adopt ESG best practices (Environmental, Social, Governance) of environmental sustainability, energy saving, comfort and work-life balance for employees. Also there production line that the company will install on the site is designed in lean logic and in the name of innovation, designed to allow maximum adaptability and flexibility and equipped with a robust Industry 4.0 infrastructure.

“Recovering abandoned industrial areas is always a positive fact, it is even more so when the conversion takes place because the area once again hosts productive activities. Even if our economic system has diversified compared to the past, the manufacturing continues to represent a axis of development and growth essential for our economy. The launch of automotive-related productions in this area demonstrates that this area retains a strong industrial vocation and that it is capable of facing the challenge of the ecological transition thanks to highly innovative companies” commented Alberto Cirio, President of the Piedmont region.

“Il Sargomma project it is a courageous investment, with important repercussions for the area. Intesa Sanpaolo supports it with conviction, with a tailor-made financial plan and consultancy. Sargomma has shown that it wants to grow not only in size, but also in culture, innovating processes and productions for a development that takes into account respect for the environment, social welfare and good corporate governance. For Intesa Sanpaolo these are primary goals, to whom it reserves the utmost attention and financial availability” he declared Stefano Cappellari, Regional Director Piedmont North, Valle d'Aosta and Sardinia of Intesa Sanpaolo.
