Stra e Synapses have launched the joint experimentation of the new Open Meter 2.0 smart meters, which E-distribuzione is installing throughout Italy. The monitoring will end on 30 April 2018. The operation is part of the topic of energy efficiency, now widespread throughout Europe.
Consumers aware of their level of consumption are able to reduce emissions and at the same time save on the final bill.
Among the many potentials that meters offer, the most important are: acoustic warning of exceeding the available power (which encourages consumers to pay greater attention), knowledge of their own consumption in real time, future access to new energy services from a smart home perspective and increasingly customer-friendly bills.
The new meters are able to communicate information to special devices currently in the test phase: this is the object of the Monitoring chain 2 requested by the Arera (Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment) for the experimentation promoted by e-distribuzione.
The first to establish correct communication with smart meters was a device produced by Sinapsi and installed at a customer of Estra Elettricità Spa, the subsidiary of the Estra group. These are devices connected via Wi-Fi to be simply plugged into a socket, which receive a series of information on the energy consumed from the meters. In the future, the devices will give access to further information and applications, for example via mobile apps, and will allow the use of additional services, such as billing in more bands than those envisaged today.
