The council of the industrialists' association preferred Squinzi to Alberto Bombassei for the aftermath of Marcegaglia, but the difference in votes was minimal: 93 preferences against 82 for the final result.

Giorgio Squinzi is the new president of Confindustria. The designation arrived this morning from the council of viale dell'Astronomia. The difference between the candidates was minimal: Squinzi has established himself with 93 preferences, against 82 votes collected by his opponent, Alberto Bombassei.

We will have to wait for the official election the private meeting of 23 MayThe public debut of the new president will instead come on May 24, when the public assembly will be held.

Born in Cisano Bergamasco (Bergamo) in 1943, Squinzi is the patron of Mapei and has already held various positions in Confindustria: he was president of Federchimica, he was part of Emma Marcegaglia's team as president of the Technical Committee for Europe and was Vice President of Assolombarda.

From an early age Squinzi began working in the family business, active in the sector of adhesives for floors and walls, and in 1969 he graduated in industrial chemistry from the University of Milan. In 1970 he founded Mapei Snc (Auxiliary materials for building and industry) together with his father, Rodolfo Squinzi, expanding the activities of his father's company and becoming responsible for its research and development function. In 1976 Mapei became a limited company and in 1984 Squinzi became its sole director.

The industrial group currently employs 7.500 people, has a turnover of 2,1 billion euros and is made up of 68 associated companies, with 59 production plants, 9 of which operate in Italy and the others in the rest of the world, in 27 countries on 5 continents .
