Cooperative banks, funding and loans growing in 2018

Collections and loans growing for cooperative banks in the first part of the year - De Lucia Lumeno (Assopopolari): "We are at the service of SMEs but the European rules are vexatious".

Le Popular Banks present a positive first quarter for 2018, with general growth in the main balance sheet aggregates. In particular, loans increased by1,1 % during each month and the supply of1,5 % with the deposit component reporting growth of 4,7 %.

A positive trend that has had an equally positive impact on the small and medium-sized businesses and on families who were able to benefit from loans respectively equal to 7 billion euros e 3 billion euros (the latter in particular intended for the purchase of homes).

The importance of these loans and of the intermediation activity carried out by the popular credit is underlined by the words of Giuseppe DeLucia Lumeno, Secretary of the National Association of Cooperative Banks: "In an economic and productive context such as the Italian one in which small and medium-sized enterprises are an integral part of our economy, the role of local banks assumes even greater importance, making it clear how their presence and their work should not be harassed by European rules tailor-made for economic and banking systems different from ours, but, on the contrary, should be better protected and valued as already happens in other countries".
