Bank of Italy, Visco's confirmation maybe this week

The Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, in the press conference on the Council of Ministers on the maneuver, confirmed that there was no mention of the appointments in the Bank of Italy but the confirmation of Ignazio Visco now seems certain and it is probable that it will take place during a new Board meeting this week

The confirmation of Ignazio Visco as Governor of the Bank of Italy, whose mandate expires on 31 October, is not for today but could take place this week. Contrary to what was claimed in some journalistic reports, today the Council of Ministers did not address the issue, as the Prime Minister himself, Paolo Gentiloni, clarified in the press conference on the budget maneuver for 2018.

However, it is probable that Visco's confirmation as head of the central bank could take place in a forthcoming Council of Ministers to be held this week. The procedure provides that the proposal belongs to the premier and that the appointment, if approved by the Council, is referred to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, for the signing of the relative decree.
