Vodafone takes the field for Metroweb: interest for F2i share

The race for Metroweb, the fiber optic telephony company in which F2i holds 54% is heating up: after Telecom Italia, which intends to strengthen its broadband in the big cities and which does not hide its eye on Metroweb, the new of the day is made up of Vodafone which has officially entered the game for the share of F2i

Vodafone enters the field for the acquisition of Metroweb, the optical fiber telecommunications company, controlled by F2i (Cdp) which intends to sell its stake. After Telecom Italia which recently confirmed its interest in Metroweb, the novelty coming from Vodafone, which has made broadband and landline telephony its new target in Italy, opens up new scenarios.

The first is the competition that opens between Telecom and Vodafone for the conquest of Metroweb in the context of strengthening the fixed network. But the second, no less relevant, is that, through an active role of the Cassa depositi e prestiti, it is perhaps possible to re-launch the hypothesis of a national network company among the Italian telephone operators without hegemonies and within the framework of a real modernization and development of the country's TLCs compatible with the guidelines of the Antitrust. The next steps will tell if new scenarios can finally open up and who will be the subjects who will promote a new era of our telecommunications and greater market opening.
