Terna has selected 40 finalists for the "Driving Energy Award 2022 – Contemporary Photography”, the competition organized by the company that manages the national electricity grid with the aim of promoting the country's cultural development and new talents in the sector.

Among the names of the finalists, the list of which is published on the site Driving Energy Terna Award, there are photographers of all ages, professionals known nationally and internationally, but also under 30 who represent the new languages of photography.
The finalist works will be on display at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Roma, with free access, from 15 to 27 November. On the opening day of the exhibition the proclamation and will also take place the awarding of the five winners: four prizes (Senior, Young and two Special Mentions) will be proclaimed by the Curator, Marco Delogu, and by the Jury; a Special Mention will be decreed by the more than 5.100 people of Terna, who will thus have been the largest popular jury of a photographic award.
“The selection of the finalist works for the Driving Energy Award was a great opportunity to probe the quality and variety of contemporary Italian photography, starting from a theme that allowed us to underline how energy, in photography, comes from the inner strength and secret of each author, who uses it in their work as a research tool,” he said Marco Delogu, curator of the Prize. “In the selection of the finalists, we have privileged photographic works which decline energy in implied and original ways, and which, with mastery and authority, call into question the current experiments of contemporary art. The choice was also guided by the evaluation of a common refinement and technical expertise, accompanied by the ability to tell the present and the real with a critical sense".
The jury
The 40 finalist works will be evaluated by the jury, supported not only by the curator, but also by the presidential committee of the award, made up of Valentina Bosetti and Stefano Donnarumma, respectively chairman and chief executive officer of Terna; the jury is made up of Salvatore Settis, art historian and academic, Lorenza Bravetta, curator of the photography, cinema and new media sector at the Milan Triennale, Elisa Medde, editor, curator and photography writer, Emanuele Trevi, writer and literary critic, Strega Award 2021, Jasmine Trinca, actress and director, and Massimiliano Paolucci, director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs and Sustainability of Terna.
Driving Energy Award Exhibition 2022
“The 2022 Driving Energy Award Exhibition also represents for Terna a lever of innovation at the service of social inclusion and sustainability”, underlines the company in a note. The exhibition will also be open in Metaverse, the virtual 3D space in which visitors can move, share content and interact through their own personalized avatars. A novelty that will allow everyone to discover the exhibition by exploring it in a virtual environment that faithfully reproduces the physical spaces of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni.
The Driving Energy Award Exhibition is Terna's first project, among the various initiatives being studied by the Group, to see the light in the Metaverse, and it also marks the debut of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in virtual 3D world.
