Tamburi Investment Partners, investor and major supporter of the Italian tech giant Bending Spoon since 2019, he has been cashing out, selling a small portion of his investment and taking home a huge capital gain, even with the firm intention of remaining in the capital with the idea that the company can grow further.
Gionanni Tamburi's Tip has decided to sell less than 9% of its stake in Bending Spoon, founded in 2013 in Milan and led by CEO Luca Ferrari: the valorization has yielded 27 million, equal to 20 times their cost, with a gigantic capital gain of over 25 million, he says in a statement.
Under the transaction, the stake held in Bending Spoons “is worth approximately €300 million, representing just under 20% of TIP’s current market capitalization, at a total investment cost for all Bending Spoons shares that represented less than 0,5% of what we believe to be the fair value of TIP’s assets to date,” the statement says.
Why is Tip giving up part of his stake in Bending Spoon?
In the note, Tip recounts the story that has tied her to Bending since 2019, when she "understood the exceptional quality of the team, the unique business model, and its enormous development potential" and decided to invest in the company and accompany its growth, eventually holding a stake of approximately 3,3% of the capital. Then the decision to sell of a portion of the share: "not because we are convinced that the valuation represents a point of arrival, but to demonstrate to Tip's stakeholders that sometimes, even while continuing to pursue a permanent capital model, it may be worthwhile to concretely demonstrate the realization, even if partial, of a multi-year investment," Tip explained. Once this is done, the investment company wants to "continue to be part of of the shareholding structure and where possible of the governance of Bending Spoons” and to be “confident” that “thecurrent rating may in the future increase further, even substantially".
Last March, Bending Spoons, after the major acquisitions of 2024, which brought into its portfolio important platforms such as Brightcove, StreamYard, Vimeo, Issuu and WeTransfer, also acquired Komoot, one of the leading platforms for planning outdoor routes.
